Key accountabilities:

  • Negotiation and advice on one off long term natural gas and power purchase and sale contracts
  • Advice on natural gas and power transportation, storage and infrastructure commitments and projects
  • Negotiation and advice on primary (buying credits from developers) and secondary (trading existing credits and allowances) environmental products transactions and projects
  • Structuring and advising on commodity based financially settled derivative products
  • Advising on and structuring financing and credit management tools in connection with commodity supply and purchase contracts
  • Advising on discounting and other trade finance arrangements
  • Running and maintaining M&A projects such as JV's for natural gas storage, strategic equity investments in suppliers and acquisitions of emissions portfolios
  • Analysis of Commodity Exchange, Clearing House and Brokerage terms
  • Use of industry standard Master Trade Agreements (EFETs, ISDAs, IETAs, Master Netting Agreements) for structured trades such as swaps, virtual transportation and synthetic storage
  • Monitoring and analysis of market and documentary changes in natural gas and power markets across Europe and in environmental products markets

Required Experience:

  • Energy, corporate, commercial or banking legal experience - the existing lawyers in the team have mixture of M&A, banking, energy projects and Upstream oil and gas backgrounds prior to joining the team
  • Enthusiasm to consolidate existing experience of, or to learn, commodities trading and origination work
  • Good drafting skills and confidence handling lengthy and complex documentation
  • Experience of handling transactional work
  • Client counselling and an ability to work internationally and with different cultures
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting demands, operate effectively against short timelines and provide prompt and commercially focused advice
  • Sound legal and business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills
  • A team player that is able to work closely with legal colleagues, originators, traders and other functions
  • An effective manager of external resources
