Taylor Root are retained exclusively by one of the worlds most well-respected Professional Services organisations, who are looking for a Director of Risk to join their business, based in either Dubai or Johannesburg.
This is a rare opportunity to join a best-in-class business in a role that requires a unique skillset and background. You will work closely with a highly-integrated global Risk team, ensuring that the company is able to operate in it's most effective capacity, whilst managing the risks that present themselves.
For what is predominantly an inward-facing role, the Director of Risk will work closely with partners and wider colleagues across the firm, with the firm's board and risk committees, with senior leaders of the firm across the region, and with other professionals including the firm's communications and legal teams.
The Director of Risk will lead the Risk function's work in the region, as well as contributing to the function's work globally. The position combines ownership of risk in the region, with applying outstanding judgement to act as a peer counsellor to partners on highly-complex issues, and leading key risk and compliance initiatives as part of integrated global risk function.
Key to the role is an approach of facilitation, providing solutions to enable partners to serve their clients, while protecting the firm.
Advice and support forms a major part of this role, with the Director of Risk acting as a peer counsellor to the firms partners, including firm, office, and practice leaders, enabling client impact while managing risks to the firm, its clients, and its people. This will include acting as the lead adviser on a wide range of complex, high-risk regional issues which are raised to the firm's global Risk Committee. It will also involve hands-on support on higher-risk issues and events. The director of Risk will also act as a global subject matter expert on selected areas of risk, depending on the individual's background and interests.
The Candidate Profile
The global Risk function is professionally diverse, with backgrounds including communications, consulting, diplomacy, government, government affairs and law. The common thread that unites the individuals in the function is an acute understanding of Risk, and an innate ability to act as a peer counsellor to their business Partners.
As a consequence the successful applicant for this role could come from a number of backgrounds. Common criteria amongst shortlisted profiles would include:
- Exceptional academics from a leading educational institution.
- At least 10 years' experience in a field related to Risk - e.g Policy, Risk, Legal, Strategy, Government
- A keen interest in Risk and Governance.
- Demonstrated record of success in previous roles.
- Additional language capability a preference but not essential.
- Experience operating across the Middle East & Africa regions (including India, Turkey, & Pakistan)
